The annual Perspectief programme is now accepting joint proposals from consortiums of researchers, businesses and community organisations. Part of the NWO Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES), this programme focuses on technology innovations and is open to research projects that promote the Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs), including KIA Digitalisation coordinated by Topsector ICT.

Mission-driven Innovation Policy and NTS

Perspectief is instrumental to Dutch innovation policy, making a key contribution to the Dutch government’s Mission-driven Innovation Policy and the National Technology Strategy (NTS). The programme is aligned with the KIAs in Climate & Energy – Circular Economy – Health & Care – Agriculture, Water and Food – Security as well as the use of Information and Digital Technologies and digitalisation in the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Mission-driven Innovation Policy.

Perspectief aims to develop and optimise Information and Digital Technologies that strengthen the position of the Dutch knowledge and innovation system on the world stage. These technologies not only help to identify solutions for the challenges facing society, but also hold the potential to drive economic growth.

Budget and lead time

Perspectief has a total budget of approximately 22 million euro per year, funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. NWO awards at least 2 million and at most 5 million for each project accepted, with companies and other users covering at least 30% of the total project costs. The Perspectief programme has three application phases. See this page for more information.

Strong collaboration

Innovative technologies that deliver economic and social impact often demand a large-scale approach. Perspectief therefore encourages the development of new lines of research, a transition away from traditional networks and strong collaborations between researchers and businesses, pursuing an interdisciplinary approach to solving innovation bottlenecks. Researchers, businesses and community organisations therefore submit joint proposals, as a consortium, for the annual Perspectief programme.
